- How often do you have to change the strings?
- When they break! On a hammered dulcimer that is about the only time.
- On a mountain dulcimer, the intonation will go bad before the a string breaks (usually) and that is a good time to change them. This happens in about six months from when the strings were new. Plan to change mountain dulcimer strings about every six months. A little longer at first. Sooner or later one will break though..
- Ask for help changing strings the first time. Another good reason to come to the meetings!
