Meeting: Saturday January 15, 2005 5:30 PM. Dinner at 6:00PM Yale Avenue Christian Church. Presuming we dont have a tsunami from the Arkansas River, or the pond next door! Could somebody remind those swans to hold it down?
Hey, dulci-people! What a great time we had at the December gathering. We had upwards of 25 hungry souls eager to eat us out of the place, but it didn?t happen, because we had lots of food. Meat and cheese plates, sandwiches, barbeque, lots of veggies and salads, and wonderful desserts. Wow, that was fun. Maybe we should do it again some time, like next December, huh?
Afterwards, we played for a couple of hours and everyone got to unveil their new versions of seasonal tunes, and much more. It was a really nice and fun evening. And we are especially happy that Jonathan is able to be with us on Saturday nights again. His schedule is working out really well, at least as far as we?re concerned, it is!
Next meeting is Saturday, January 15th, at Yale Avenue Christian Church, on the SW corner of 36th and Yale in Tulsa. Doors will be open at about 5:30 PM, and we?ll have folks to help out the newbies from 6:00 to 7:00, then a short business session, and then our play-around. Something else to look forward to is the Winter Festival of Acoustic Music (WinterFest) at the First Methodist Church in Irving TX on Feb 11th and 12th, and the String Fling gathering in Joplin on Feb 26th. Lots of fun to be had in the coming months, so stay tuned, and make plans now to get out to some of these festivals and workshops.
Dennis.
Well I have agreed to put out this newsletter one more year! Do I need therapy or what? Its not that hard to do now its electronic, so here goes.
During the play around, each month I will post a new tune to learn in the theme of the comming month. What to expect is after the first time around, we will all do this tune as a group tune. Lets play it through twice, then go around playing "solos", feel free to play along, just play very very quietly so the "soloist" stands out clearly. Play it one time around then it passes around the circle. When everybody has had their turn, lets play it one time and then thats it. Back to going around the circle playing our personal choices again.
Since February is the month of Valentines.. how about something with a little passion in it? Lets make Greensleves the tune we will play as a group tune in January, so you will be ready to play for your special someone in February! And we may play it again next month.
So come to the January meeting with Greensleeves in D! Thats everybody, whatever you play!
In February lets play The Irish Washer Woman again in D. Now you have more than a months warning on this one!
Tab for these tunes is readily avilable on the web. A quick google search found more than enough sites to provide tab for any skill level. Because these tabletures and sheet music sites are so readily accessed (see previous newsletters for some links...) I do not plan to duplicate them here.
So if you don't know then, now is a chance to learn them. At the end of the year we should be able to play 12 tunes as a group! Now if you are a beginner, just learn the melody, if you are an advance player, learn a harmony! Learn to chord the tunes as well as play the melody. During the group section try not to play the various parts you have learned. Use this as an opportunity to play in a group!
Also feel free to suggest a tune for the coming month at the meeting.
Dana
See the photos from December! In case I have not mentioned, if you see a photo on the website you really really don't like! Just tell me and I will make you the next newsletter editor! Thanks for volunteering!
See you next meeting, and next year-
Dana
